In a move to make the the Kenyan SGR train services more effective, the management has come up with a new resolution for children over the age of 3 years to pay full fare on SGR trains effective June 1st. This is a new rule released by Kenya Railways as of today.
Seat selection​
Passengers will now be able to select their preferred seats online during booking and in addition to M-Pesa, they will be allowed to pay for their seats using credit/debit cards.
The advance booking window has also been extended from 30 days to 60 days.
Cancellation of tickets
Request for refund shall be accepted 48 and 72 hours before the time of travel for individuals and groups respectively.
Important to note is that refunds shall be subject to a 30 percent fee of the ticket price and no refunds shall be done for damaged tickets.
Rescheduling
Rescheduling will attract a fee of 10 percent of the ticket price and the ticket shall only be rescheduled once.
Minors above three years to pay full fare
Unlike before, minors above three years will now pay full fare and will be required to indicate the parent’s or guardian’s National ID or passport.
If traveling alone, they will be required to present a copy of the parent’s/guardian’s ID or passport.
Luggage
Passengers found traveling with an invalid ticket or without a ticket shall pay full fare for Nairobi to Mombasa with an additional 30 percent penalty.
