Can one use the NHIF card in any hospital?
This is the question that rings in the mind of any Kenyans once they want to use their NHIF Card. Initially, you could get NHIF services from your chosen or pre-approved hospital, but about a year ago, the law was scrapped and any cardholder can access outpatient services from any NHIF approved hospital.
This means that anyone can use their NHIF card to be treated in any facility without getting any money from their pockets.
This means that cardholders can walk in and walk out of any accredited facility fully treated at the cost of NHIF without having to dig into their pockets. When issuing an announcement to the NHIF members, Mr. Geoffrey Mwangi the NHIF CEO explained that; I have come across several complaints where a beneficiary traveled and became ill, and he/she cannot be treated because they did not choose the nearby facilities.
How to check your NHIF status Online?
Checking your NHIF status online helps you know many things including;
- monthly contributions,
- dependents,
- months defaulted, and so on.
Accessing the NHIF approved outpatient services largely depends on your NHIF status. This is the reason you should get updated with your status to avoid inconveniences that you cannot use your card may be because you defaulted in monthly payments.
Below is the procedure for checking your NHIF status;
- Visit the NHIF website on your phone or computer.
- If this is your first time visiting the portal, you will begin by registering.
- To register on the portal, you need to provide the NHIF card number, email address, and phone number.
- If you are already registered, you can log in to the self-service portal using the username and password that you provided during registration.
- You can then proceed to check the status of your NHIF account.
