Fertility Clinics in Kenya

Fertility clinics are medical clinics that assist couples, and sometimes individuals, who want to become parents but for medical reasons have been unable to achieve this goal via the natural course.
These clinics usually conduct various tests to find out the cause of the fertility problem (underlying cause)
For men, it may include semen collection to ascertain problems with the semen quality.
Females may undergo a number of tests including an ovulation analysis, x-ray of fallopian tubes and uterus, and laparoscopy.

These clinics do offer services such as ovulation induction, surgical interventions, artificial insemination, such as intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), or the use of an egg donor or a sperm donor.

In Vitro Fertilisation Kenya (IVF)

In Vitro Fertilization is a one assisted reproductive technology (ART) commonly referred to as IVF.IVF stands for in vitro fertilization. In vitro means “in the lab” and fertilization refers to conception. The process involves monitoring and stimulating a woman’s ovulatory process, removing an ovum or ova(egg or eggs) from the woman’s ovaries and letting sperm fertilise them in a liquid in a laboratory. The fertilised egg ( zygote) is cultured for 2–6 days in a growth medium and is then implanted in the same or another woman’s uterus, with the intention of establishing a successful pregnancy.
Other forms of ART include gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT)and zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT).

IVF Procedure  (How It’s Done)

1.Suppressing natural monthly hormone cycle
A drug is given to suppress the natural cycle, which can be self-administered in the form of a daily injection or a nasal spray, for about two weeks.
2.Boosting the Ova supply
After the natural cycle has been suppressed, one is given a fertility hormone (gonadotrophin).This is given/administered as a daily injection for around 12 days.
3.Monitoring Progress
The doctor monitors progress throughout the drug treatment through vaginal ultrasound scans and, possibly, blood tests. Around 34-48 hours before collection of the eggs(ova) Hcg( human chorionic gonadotrophin) hormone is administered.
4.Collecting the Ova
The eggs are collected using an ultrasound probe while one is sedated. After collection one is given medication (pessaries or gel to apply )

5.Fertilisation

Ova is mixed with sperm and cultured for 16-20 hours to allow fertilisation. After fertilisation, the successful Embryos are incubated for 6 days while being monitored pending transfer.
Any remaining embryos of suitable quality can be frozen for future use

Transfer

A speculum is attached in the vagina, using ultrasound guidance a catheter is passed to Womb and embryo (SET ) or embryos passed.
