Initially, any additional transactions between 1 and 100 shillings would have cost you between Kshs 1-21 per transaction, but all those small charges when sending Kshs 100 and below have been waived.

Thus, the new mpesa paybill charges zero transaction fees for customers when paying from 1 to 100 shillings.

The charges here range between 4 shillings and 12 shillings for all transactions from Sh. 101 to Sh. 150,000. Business to MPesa transactions below sh. 100 remain free.

The new Mpesa Paybill transaction charges for 2023 provide customers with greater fee transparency, allowing them to easily understand how much they are being charged for their transactions.

The new charges are also designed to make it easier for businesses to manage their finances when using Mpesa, as they can now calculate upfront the fees that they will be charged for each transaction.

Why did the Kenyan government introduce mpesa paybill charges in 2023?

The Kenyan government introduced Mpesa paybill charges in 2023 in order to raise additional revenue from mobile money transactions. This is part of the governments effort to increase its revenue base in order to finance its development projects.

The increased revenue from Mpesa paybill charges will also help to reduce the government's borrowing needs.
